About AFPI


The Academy of Family Physicians of India (AFPI) is a professional academic society, registered as a non-profit organization in India. AFPI has been founded with the aim of promoting Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare.

Family medicine (FM) is a medical speciality devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages and provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, disease and parts of the body. It is based on knowledge of the patient in the context of the family and the community, emphasizing disease prevention and health promotion.

AFPI as a forum is spearheading the development of academic family medicine in India. AFPI is an equivalent organization in India to the American Academy of Family Physicians, College of Family Physicians of Canada, Royal College of General Practitioners, and Royal Australian College of General Practice.

AF PI was founded on 27th August 2010 in New Delhi, India. AFPI is a full member of WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors). The academy currently has a membership base across India and functions through several state chapters. The members include family medicine specialists, practicing family physicians, general practitioners, and medical officers who provide generalist medical care across all age groups, genders, and organ systems.
